Houston is gearing up for a very busy summer, with major events, like international soccer matches, Astros games, and concerts on the horizon. Getting around the city is about to look a little different. The good news? A little planning now can go a long way.
If you’re part of Houston’s daily workforce—especially commuting into high-traffic areas like the Galleria, Medical Center, or Downtown—this is your moment to stay one step ahead. By adjusting your routine and exploring flexible options like teleworking or transit, you can avoid peak congestion while helping keep the region moving.

Stay informed by checking the predicted high-traffic days on the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s (H-GAC) Commute Game Plan. From there, simply tap “View Your Commute Plan” to access the ConnectSmart Trip Planner. This tool is pre-loaded with game-specific points of interest, such as Fun Shuttles and trails, allowing you to find the best route to your destination using transit, driving, cycling, or walking. You can even explore some area-specific, public carpool groups to match with others heading your way. Once you've found your ideal route, download the app to get moving!
If you can telework, simply track your trip in the Trip Log of the ConnectSmart app to see your real impact—carbon emissions reduced, money saved, and miles avoided by staying off the road. If you must go in, consider using the trip planner in the app to plan your route via transit, driving, cycling, walking, or any combination thereof, and save it as an upcoming trip to receive relevant alerts before you go. You can also turn your solo driving trip into a carpool by adding a carpooler once you're on your way.
Small changes add up. Fewer cars on the road means smoother travel for everyone.
Plan ahead, travel smart, and help Houston move better this summer with ConnectSmart! Stay tuned for more event-based information coming soon.
